LR44/AG13/L1154 battery is a small primary (non-rechargeable) button cell battery commonly found in LED flashlights, digital thermometers, watches, clocks, toys, calculators, remote controls and similar. Some vacuum cleaners use these batteries as motherboard batteries.

What is an L1154 Battery?

L1154 batteries represent button cell alkaline batteries of 1.5 volts. The L1154 battery is just one label/name for this series of batteries. You will find this type of battery under other common names, such as LR44, LR1154, AG13, and 157.

According to the IEC standard 60086-3, R44 battery is a round cell 11.6 mm in diameter and 5.4 mm in height.

The letter L in LR44 defines the chemistry type of the batter – a zinc negative electrode, manganese dioxide positive electrode and an alkaline electrolyte.

R44 batteries come in other chemistries, too, with specifications given in the following table.

LR44 Battery

This primary alkaline button cell battery is a typical R44 battery.

  • It is 11.6 mm in diameter, 5.4 mm in height and weighs around 1.7-1.8 grams.
  • The capacity of LR44 batteries depends on discharging conditions. When discharged over ~8k? resistor, from 1.5V down to 0.9V at room temperature of 20°C, their typical capacity is around 100-120 mAh.
  • It takes about 675 – 700 hours (almost a month) to fully discharge LR44 at this rate.

Note that voltage in alkaline batteries decreases with battery life.

The self-discharge rate of LR44 battery is at most 10% per year – one of the reasons why they are also used as motherboard batteries, although the CR2032 battery is more often used as such.

The Silver Oxide R44 Battery

It costs more than alkaline LR44 and has a slightly higher voltage and almost double the capacity.

  • Since voltage is slightly higher, sensitive equipment designed for use of silver oxide batteries can have issues when ordinary LR44 batteries are used.
  • Check the manuals if your device accepts LR44 instead of SR44 and vice versa.

Silver oxide batteries maintain voltage with battery life much better than alkaline batteries.

Zinc Air R44 Battery

It costs more than alkaline LR44.

  • It has somewhat lower voltage, but much higher capacity.
  • The PR44 (zinc-air R44) are mostly used in hearing aid devices and they use moist electrolyte and air for operation.
  • If the electrolyte dries out before they are fully discharged, they stop functioning.

Mercury Oxide Batteries

They contain mercury (hence the name) and are withdrawn from the market.

They had slightly lower voltage than alkaline batteries, but almost double the capacity – similar to the silver oxide batteries.

LR44 Battery Equivalents and Replacements

Manufacturers often have their own designations for LR44 batteries, for example: LR44, LR44G, LR44GD, LR44H, LR1154, L1154, L1154C, L1154F, L1154G, L1154H, 6135011748057, 1166A, AG13, A613, AG14, AG-14, G13A, G13-A, 157, 303, 357, A76, AG76, GDA76, GP76A, GPA7, GPA75, GPA76, GPS76A, 1128MP, 208-904, A-76, A76, CA18, CA19, CR44, D76A, KA, KA76, MS76H, PX76A, PX675A, RPX675, RW82, SB-F9, V13GA, etc.

Fortunately, most of them also use the standard name for these batteries – ‘LR44 battery’.

Common manufacturer’s designations for silver oxide R44 size button cell batteries are: SR44, SR44W, SR44SW, 6135996513240, SR1154, 1107SO, 1131SOP, SG13, S76, EPX76, 303, 357, D357H, V357, etc.

Common zinc air R44 designations are: HZA675, ZA675, KX675, NP675, P13, Size 13, etc.

Of course, there are many R44 batteries on the market. You should choose them according to your needs and budget – keeping an eye on their specifications.

Vacuum Cleaner Motherboard Batteries

Be aware that each vacuum cleaner has its own specific motherboard with certain needs and details that you should look over before replacing. For example, a Replacement Battery Protection Circuit PCB Board for Dyson V6 Vacuum Cleaner looks and acts drastically different compared to a replacement battery for a Shark Navigator vacuum cleaner.

In short, be really careful when replacing a motherboard battery on your own. If you don’t feel confident enough to do it yourself, leave it to a technician or repairman. It’s better to shell out extra cash to a pro rather than breaking something for good or even risking starting a fire over a short circuit.

FAQs on the L1154 Battery

What battery is equivalent to the L1154 battery?

All AG13 Button Batteries are equivalent to the L1154 model. Under the name of the LR44 battery, you will find a handful of alternatives and replacements, including the L1154 battery.

What battery can I use instead of LR 44?

The most common equivalents and replacements of LR 44 batteries include alkaline AG13, G13, A76, L1154, LR1154, 157, and more.

What is the difference between LR and SR batteries?

The L and S letters stand for the electrochemical process behind the batteries. L stands for Zinc, and S stands for Silver. Using an LR battery on a device requiring SR batteries may lead to a reduction in performance and time before you need to replace the said battery.

Which is better alkaline or silver oxide?

Silver oxide batteries can last up to twice the time in comparison to alkaline batteries. Because they have greater capacity and a relatively slow voltage decline during discharge, experts recommend them for photo equipment.

Can I use 357 instead of L1154?

If you have a device that uses the uncommon 355 battery, the L1154 / 357 battery can be substituted with a battery adapter ring. Just be careful to get a quality adapter ring so that you won’t risk short circuiting everything.

Which is better: silver oxide or alkaline batteries?

Compared with alkaline batteries, silver oxide batteries have a flatter discharge curve, and compared with lithium-ion batteries, silver oxide batteries have a greater run time. Also, silver oxide batteries do not have flammability problems and are free from thermal runaway, unlike their lithium-ion counterpart.

What does CR in batteries mean?

CR is the generic designation that is used by the entire battery maker but lithium batteries are also having chromium. All the batteries that have this chemical substance in their batteries they can use this abbreviation CR. On the other DL is the short abbreviation of the battery making company Duracell.
